Meet the Sommer family. Sammy Sommer is a 6-year-old boy who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Save for following his mother on Twitter (she’s a huge social media guru) and exchanging a few tweets with one another, I do not know the Sommers. I haven’t met them (yet), but because they are part of my larger Jewish family, I feel connected to them. In a recent blog post, Sammy’s mom relays a conversation in which she tells him that at least 500 congregations said the “mi she-berach” (prayer for healing) for him. He was incredulous.
