Ages 5-10

A little recycling makes a colorful serving piece!
Materials:
One balloon
White Glue
Old comicsInstructors:
Blow up a medium-sized balloon.
Cut the comics into strips (I used old Archie comics that we had in the house).
Put glue around the top half of the balloon and start layering the strips of paper. Because we are making a bowl, you are only gluing the top half of the balloon.
Keep layering the paper until there are six layers on the balloon.
Prop the balloon up to dry. Spray a clear laquer on top of the bowl.
When completely dry, pop the balloon and remove it. Trim the top of the bowl so that it is straight.
Use the bowl as decoration or as a candy dish!

just for kids...?
Does this just have to be a craft for kids? I LOVE IT! Devorah, can we do a demonstration at your house? Also, will Yael be willing to give up another one of her archie comics??Posted by: abby Sep 19, 2010 9:23 am
spray laquer?
do you have to use spray laquer or can you use watered down glue or modge podge?Posted by: Challah Sep 19, 2010 1:32 pm
Spray Laquer.
Abby, you can use watered down glue or podge -- really anything that can give it a hardened polish. But laquer is easily found in Israel.Posted by: michele Oct 18, 2011 10:50 am
paper mache puppet heads
you can also cover the balloon with strips of newspaper. Cover the entire balloon, leaving the part with the knot to become the 'neck" of the puppet... This also works as a pinata if you make the whole big enough.. ENJOY!
