Introduction:
This week’s parsha, Parshat Lech Lecha, is all about journeys. God commands Abram to “Go forth from your native land and from your father's house to the land that I will show you” and “Up, walk about the land, through its length and its breadth, for I give it to you." Abram obediently follows God’s command and begins to walk – step by step - through the sands of the desert to reach his ultimate goal and destination. Since it is still the beginning of the school year, this is a great opportunity to ask your kids where they would like to reach or what they would accomplish by the end of the year and what “steps” they will have to take to get there.
Materials:
- Paint
- Paper or cardboard
Instructions:
- Make your hand into a fist.
- Apply a coat of paint to the edge of your palm and the side of your pinky while keeping your hand in a fist.
- Press the side of your hand you just painted onto a piece of paper while still in a fist. This will create the base of the footprint.
- Put a little bit of paint on the tip of one of your fingers and make dots where the toes should be.

footprints
Why not use their actual feet for footprints? Younger kids don't even know what footprints look like so this won't make as much of an impression as making actual footprints with their feet. If you're going to be washing paint off a body part, it seems to me it shouldn't matter if you're washing their hands or feet!Posted by: barbara Oct 27, 2012 6:59 pm

It's fun to foot-paint, but can be messy, experience has taught me! I like this idea, too, because it's fun to teach kids that they can use their hands in different ways. Can they figure out how to make other prints with their hands? (I know about paw prints by bunching fingertips) I wonder....
