There are many commandments given to us this week that help the Jewish People remain holy just like God. We learn about respecting others, and being fair and just. We even are reminded to watch out for those who are less fortunate like the poor, blind and deaf.
This week we finish reading the book of VaYikrah. In this book, we have learned many laws: laws of the Land of Israel, laws of the Tabernacle and laws how we should treat our friends and neighbors. This entire book was revealed to the Israelites while they were standing at Mount Sinai.
This week there are some very strict laws when it comes to living the life of a Nazarite. There is no consuming grapes in any form at all, no shaving and a law forbidding coming near a dead body.
This week’s parsha is packed with over 70 commandments! We learn everything from what we can wear, to how we treat animals to which nations we will hold an indefinite grudge.
As the children of Israel are about to enter the land of milk and honey, Moses gives them their final instructions. This week’s Torah reading talks about the importance of keeping the commandments. We are told of the blessings the children of Israel will receive for following the commandments, and the curses that will befall them if they do not!
As Moshe concludes his time as leader, he has some last words of wisdom to pass over.
