This week’s parsha opens up with the story of three “angels” visiting Avraham’s tent and provides rich detail about how Avraham welcomes the angels in and cares for them. We learn that Avraham was a person who acts with loving-kindness specifically when it comes to the mitzvah of “Hachnasat Orchim,” welcoming guests into his home.

This week we’re creating our own little Avraham’s Tent as an appetizer.

Ingredients:

Taco chips (ideally, the triangle-shaped ones)
Chopped meat
Green pepper
Onions
Salsa
Guacamole

Directions:

1. Sauté a green pepper in a frying pan. Add 1 lb of chopped meat (I actually use ground chicken) and brown it. Once browned, add your favorite tomato sauce and simmer for 20 minutes.

2. We’re going to build a tent on each pre-plated appetizer plate using the taco chips.

3. Each plate should feature a trio of scoops of each of the elements: salsa, guacamole and the chopped meat (you may want to put the meat inside the tent!)

4. Take 4 taco chips and create a tent or teepee with them in the center of the plate.
