In honor of Israel’s Independence Day, we’re showing you how to make the perfect Israeli salad.

Keep in simple. Israeli salad does not require a lot of ingredients. In fact, its main ingredients are only cucumbers and tomatoes. You can add colorful peppers and red onions to dress it up a bit.

Value freshness. Search for only the freshest of ingredients. You want your salad to have a powerful crunch to it.

Think small. The key to a perfect Israeli salad is the size of the vegetables. All vegetables should be diced. The smaller the pieces, the more authentic the Israeli salad. Think tiny.

Drizzle. The dressing on an Israeli salad is simple: olive oil, lemon juice salt and pepper. For a standard salad, use 4 Tbsp of olive oil, the juice from one lemon and salt and pepper to taste.

Eat it for breakfast. To truly embrace the Israeli spirit, serve your salad at breakfast time – that’s when real sabras eat it!
